What a year!

2023 was an exciting year for everyone in CURRENT. As CEO (and salesman, and office planner, and trade fair representative, and HR person…) of the company, I’ve experienced everything up close. I have to say: What a year! We signed Elfag, secured a contract for all the chargers in Bergen, launched new features, and much, much more! Looking back, it’s hard to decide what to focus on when summing up the year.

The system got better!

The most important thing is that CURRENT got even better. The CURRENT Portal and App is our core products; they're our reason for existing, and I’m proud of all the improvements we’ve made. The system sports a host of integrations, management tools, analytics functions, and features it didn’t have a year ago. Including spot pricing and home charging for business. I can confidently say that we have the best system on the market. And all the new features we added in 2023 will continue to generate value for years to come.

We became more supportive

When you’re making something amazing, it’s easy to get caught up in the thrill of creating and forget about support. To keep us on track, we grew the support team. That made 2023 our first year with 24/7 support capabilities. A bigger team meant more resources, and that allowed us to create monthly product tours and instructional video content. Having a complete Customer Success team in-house proved to be invaluable! Not only for existing customers, but for new business.

We scored big!

The biggest win of the year came right at the end, but we’ve worked towards it for months (and years, come to think of it). We secured a partnership with Bergen. For those of you who don’t know, Bergen (a city and a municipality) is the EV capital of Norway. If you’re keeping track, that makes it the EV capital of the world. Having Bergen select CURRENT proves that we have the best Charge Point Management System in the world, bar none. But that’s not all. We made lots of new friends this year.

And we made new friends!

This year, we’ve expanded our partner program, signing over 40 new partners. They’re all important to us, but I want to focus on one. This year, we partnered with Elfag, the biggest installer membership organization in Norway. Together, we launched the CURRENT installation sets, which help installers set up EV chargers in less than five minutes. Our partnership with Elfag has brought much innovation, and with innovation comes growth.

We grew in Sweden!

Not only did we grow in Sweden, but we also established a Swedish subsidiary. That’s allowed us to increase our presence, growth, and focus on the Swedish market. As of now, we’ve signed more than twenty key partners in the Swedish market, including Rexel! In addition, we launched our Swedish website and a dedicated offering aimed at the Swedish market.

Speaking of growth, the team grew too!

In 2023, our team grew with several key members, and our staff has doubled! We’ve hired front-end and backend developers to help us with even more customer-centric UX designs, a Talent Acquisition Manager to handle hiring top talents for our teams, and Customer Support and Success Managers to help our customers and partners when stuck. These new key members have helped us grow, expand, simplify, and improve our product and business in a thousand different ways. Having their expertise leaves us more than ready for all the challenges and opportunities we’ll encounter in 2024. I look forward to a new year with our amazing team, and I wish all our partners, friends, customers, and readers a happy new year.

P.S. In 2023, our founder, Åsmund Møll Frengstad, spent a considerable amount of time helping the EU understand what the future of charging looks like. He’s currently working on several EU projects, including SCALE, BiDCharge and SpotME. We’re going to launch a dedicated section for these projects on our website. Keep an eye out for that!
