The electric car capital Bergen has chosen Norwegian CURRENT to manage the municipality’s chargers. The agreement makes CURRENT the exclusive supplier of Charge Point Management Systems (CPMS) to Bergen. One of the reasons for choosing CURRENT is its class-leading experience and expertise in the industry standard OCPP. In the future, CURRENT will ensure that Bergen has access to all the benefits that come with an OCPP-based CPMS. In addition, we will give Bergen access to all the features available in the CURRENT system.

BERGEN IS A CITY THAT IS COMMITTED TO ELECTRIC CARS.

It is a pleasure to announce that we have signed a contract with Bergen Municipality. Not just because Bergen is Norway’s electric car capital, but because Bergen has proven that it is truly investing in the future. Through the process, we have gained insight into Bergen’s vision for the future, and it is a vision we wholeheartedly support. It is clear that both sustainability and a good user experience are central to Bergen. We are therefore proud to have been chosen as the city’s and municipality’s official CPMS provider. All members of the CURRENT team are looking forward to contributing their expertise and skills to make life even better for electric car owners in Bergen.

MAKING IT EASIER FOR BERGEN RESIDENTS TO CHOOSE AN ELECTRIC CAR

Throughout the process, the City of Bergen has made it clear that the most important thing is to make it easier for residents to choose an electric car. The CURRENT system will contribute to stability and simpler operation. In addition, the system makes it easy to expand the city’s charging network by adding more chargers in the future. The CURRENT platform will simplify many of the tasks related to service, support, and maintenance, which will benefit all EV drivers. The choice of CURRENT as a supplier shows that Bergen takes its commitment to the city’s EV owners seriously.

CURRENT WILL TAKE OVER ALL OPERATIONS FROM JANUARY 2024

CURRENT will take over the chargers in Bergen in January 2024. In the time ahead, we will work together with Bergen to get everything ready. The actual transfer will take place simultaneously throughout the city, and Bergen residents will have immediate access to the CURRENT system. For most people, there will be no major changes, and the city’s electric car drivers will be able to continue charging as if nothing has happened. However, most people will probably notice that the chargers have become even better and more stable.

Through CURRENT, Bergen municipality gets access to our roaming agreements. This means that all of Bergen’s chargers can become available through, for example, EasyPark and Elbilforeningen. In other words, Bergen can become the first large municipality in Norway to integrate its chargers with several popular apps and platforms.
